the c-word

pain and growth

of an unnatural kind

clusters of infiltrators

revolting inside

this isn’t behind enemy lines

but on sacred home ground

a war within

an invasion

a betrayal of the worst kind

I wrote “the c-word” about my personal journey with cancer. It became this word that held so much power. It wasn’t to be uttered for fear its power would grow. But keeping things in the dark is what gives them power. As I continue on my journey of writing a memoir, I am constantly reminded to acknowledge where I’ve been, but also how beautiful healing from broken places can be.
